Going to Disney World can be a bit of a challenge if you have a serious fear of heights. Thrill rides like the Tower of Terror and Tron Light Cycle come to mind, but so do more benign experiences like riding the Skyliner or Soarin’ Around the World at Epcot.
Soarin’ Around the World, or Soarin’ for short, is a flight simulation ride. Riders are seated side-by-side in a wing-shaped ride vehicle in front of a screen to simulate motion. It might not seem like it, but Soarin’ can be quite anxiety-inducing for guests who don’t like high places. Guests are strapped in only by a seat belt and, at the beginning of the ride, the ride sweeps forward and upward, and can be quite elevated in height. The seats move gently in various planes to give riders the feeling of gliding over famous landmarks around the world.
Our tip is to ask the cast member in charge of assigning seating to be placed in Row 3. Of the three rows, this is the one that elevates the least and provides the mildest experience. Thrill seekers should prefer Row 1, which goes the highest during the ride.
While Disney World offers many exciting attractions, it’s important to know your limits and take steps to ensure a comfortable experience. By planning ahead and making small adjustments, you can still enjoy the magic of Disney World without letting your fear of heights hold you back.
