Not more than two weeks ago we were at Disney World during Hurricane Helene. This storm caused major damage in the southeast, but largely spared the Orlando area and Disney World. We documented strong winds, blowing debris, and some minor damage at Magic Kingdom and Epcot, but nothing more.
Now Hurricane Milton is headed our way with Disney World in its crosshairs. The current National Hurricane Center projection has Milton passing within miles of the Mouse House. There is no evacuation order this far from the coast and the Disney Hotels are at capacity as Floridians seek shelter inland. As of now, Disney World is operating as normal and has not announced plans to close. However, they are monitoring the situation closely.
We haven’t had a chance to visit Disney World in the past few days (other than a quick trip to Gideon’s at Disney Springs for some sweets) because we’re doing our own hurricane preparation. We had planned on seeing Joey Fatone at Epcot’s Eat to the Beat concert series as part of the International Food and Wine Festival, but were deterred by heavy rains in our area and decided to go shopping instead to stock up on supplies. We’re glad we did because the shelves are clearing fast.
We may try to take a quick trip there before the Hurricane arrives to see what sort of preparation is taking place. If we do, we’ll report it here. In the meantime, stay safe, everyone!
