So, first, let us get this off our chest. Why is tiramisu, an Italian dessert, a featured flavor at the America Pavilion at Epcot? This dessert is rumored to originate in the Veneto region of Italy, and Disney serves it dusted with espresso powder, another Italian treat. Well, it is the International Food and Wine festival, after all. So, why not celebrate Italian-American heritage?
Regardless of why it’s there, we’re glad it is. We find it to be one of the better funnel cake flavors we’ve had at the Epcot festivals. And that’s saying something. We’re already huge fans of Disney’s funnel cake, which is also available at Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom and at Epic Eats in the Echo Lake area of Hollywood Studios. We try every new flavor when we see them, and this one ranks up there.
The tiramisu funnel cake has fresh fried dough topped with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate rum sauce, cream cheese whipped cream, and is dusted with cocoa and espresso powder.
What makes it so good?
That’s easy. There are so many culinary contrasts, making it a rich dining experience: the hot dough and the cold ice cream, the sweet whipped cream and bitter cocoa and espresso powder, the slight sourness of cream cheese and molasses-like undertones of the chocolate rum. So good.
If you want to try this particular funnel cake concoction, you have until November 23, 2024, when the International Food and Wine festival at Epcot ends. And if tiramisu isn’t your thing, there are other flavors to try that are typically available year round, served between 11am and 9pm. Try any combination of these toppings:
- Powdered sugar ($10.00)
- Chocolate sauce ($11.50)
- Whipped cream ($12.00)
- Vanilla ice cream ($13.50)
- Cookies and cream ($15.00)
When you plan your visit to Epcot during the Food and Wine Festival, make sure to pencil in some time to indulge in this treat. The line can get long and moves slowly so try to avoid the lunch and dinner rush. Happy eats!
