The One Place at Disney World Where Visitors Can’t Take Photos. Ever.

It may not be surprising that Disney World has some rules about where you can take photos. After all, Disney needs to keep the magic alive for park-goers, and nothing ruins the fun like exposing the secrets behind the magic or blinding performers with a camera flash.

Perhaps the most well-known area where photos are a no-go is Backstage. This is where cast members handle food prep, parade and character staging, take breaks, and manage mechanical operations. Guests aren’t allowed in these behind-the-scenes areas. Cast members caught taking photos Backstage can face disciplinary action, lose privileges, or even get their employment terminated, depending on the severity and number of violations.

Guests also aren’t allowed to use flash photography on certain rides and attractions, like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. The flash can disrupt the experience, interrupt live performances, and even trigger medical conditions like migraines or epilepsy. However, you can still take photos without the flash.

But there’s one spot where guests may run afoul of Disney World photo rules without realizing it: security checkpoints. It makes sense, right? Disney needs to keep their security protocols intact, and photos could reveal security features and undermine their effectiveness. For that reason, security may get involved if they see guests with cameras out at these checkpoints.

We’ve seen guests find this out the hard way. We’ve witnessed security ask unwitting guests to take their finger off the shutter button or even delete photos before allowing them into the park. It’s easy to overlook this rule when you’re excited to capture the moment with a selfie or a wide angle view of the entrance. But if those pictures include security checkpoints, Disney might have a word with you about it.

Just remember, Disney World’s photography rules are there to preserve the magic and ensure everyone’s safety. By following these guidelines, you can help keep the enchanting experience alive while respecting the protocols that keep everyone safe.
